The other day I was driving through a development on my way home from work, when a gaggle of geese decided to cross the road. Now I immediately started laughing, I mean who wouldn’t when there are geese crossing the road.
Well, the guy driving in the opposite direction hadn’t looked happy, in fact if I hadn’t been there, he most likely would’ve just kept on driving… that’s how pissed he looked.
This got me thinking, if you don’t have the time to sit back and wait for geese to cross the road, then what do you really have time for?
For starters, if you’re leaving your home at the last possible second, making yourself late, that’s your own damn fault, not the geese. Now I’m guilty of this too, but I’ve also been tackling it by waking up earlier, and getting things done so that I can leave earlier.
There’s no fun in driving when you’re having to rush all of the time. Plus, when I leave my apartment earlier, I can take the more scenic route.
This simple adjustment to my day puts me in a better mood, allowing me to start my day off right.
Maybe this guy wasn’t running late for something, but something had crawled up his ass. People have this habit of letting the little things upset them, making them angry. When we live our lives with this mindset, nothing in life is enjoyable.
I know this because this used to be me. I used to let every little thing bother me until it consumed me… schoolwork, work, house chores. But when I was worrying about every little thing, I forgot to breathe.
I’d make plans for the end of the week and look forward to that every day, but when those plans got cancelled, I’d crumble.
Why?
Because I worked so hard throughout the week, and I’d only let myself come up for air when I made plans to. So, when the plans were canceled, it meant I had to wait a whole week to breathe again.
This made me realize that I needed a change, something that would make my life worth it. Why did I have to wait a whole week to truly live? I learned that by implementing small things into my day, I could enjoy each and every day, not just the weekend.
For example, I absolutely love coffee so by treating myself to a coffee or by making myself a nice coffee in the morning, I am able to feel refreshed, and ready to dominate whatever comes my way.
Doing small things to make yourself happy doesn’t make you selfish, it just allows you to live.
Do yourself a favor and implement small habits throughout your day that make you happy. I promise you’ll feel happier!
Now before you roll your eyes and say, “I just don’t have time to do anything extra throughout my day”, that just isn’t true. We choose how our time is spent, so when we’re spending it being unhappy, that’s our own doing.
So instead, figure out how you can make the time, and do it. No one is stopping you but yourself, so don’t get in the way of your own happiness. Or you’ll be just like that guy taking his anger out on the geese for simply minding their own business.
